Type Locality and Naming

Along the S. Sandjar in the Baysun Mountains, Southwestern Gissar. T.A. Sixtel, 1960 (409, p.39). Previously identified as the Kayrak Fm (91; 165; 339; 382, table 13; 446; 448).

Synonym: Sandzhar Suite, Санджарская св, Sandjar Fm


Lithology and Thickness

Breccias, breccia-like conglomerates, gravellites, sandstones, in which quartz composition predominates, bauxite-like rocks, argillites, siltstone (aleurolites), coals. Thickness up to 70m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Lies transgressively on the Paleozoic

Upper contact

It is also overlain by the Gurud Fm, Baysun-Jur Fm, or Tupolang Fm.

Regional extent

Southwestern Gissar, its southern slope, Mechetli and Bukhara-Karshinsky region. The facial (invalid) analogue is the Tashkent Fm.

Fossils

Contains large plant remains - Clathropteris obovata Oishi, Plebopteris torosa Sixt. and others (383, table 4, p.1).


Age 

Conditionally attributed to the Rhaetian - Lower Jurassic based on the complex of early Jurassic large plant remains and the presence of bauxite-like rocks. A. dated the suite to the Late Triassic based on large plant remains.
